Microtel Disc Golfer of the Week Matt Monczka--PDGA #: 13207
Also noteworthy is Matt's founding of, not only the outstanding doubles league in Ypsilanti, but his work in getting local restaurants involved with disc golf. This hard work has benefited the players nicely, who now enjoy alternating the league between two courses and weekly CTPs sponsored by local businesses that include towels, gift certificates, and money.
Matt's influence on, not just Ypsilanti disc golf, but the sport as a whole, can be best described by nominating disc golfer Daemon Stahlin, who tells us, "Matt has shown me and many others that disc golfers can be a valued asset and loyal customer base at local businesses."
Daemon continues, "[Matt] is very selfless and generous, sacrificing many hourse of his personal time and money to ensure a good turnout and smooth operation." It is this type of dedication to disc golf that catches our attention with the MT DGer of the Week Award.
The lasting effect of Matt's work will be tested, as he has recently taken a teaching job (8th grade) in Florida. His move to the Sunshine State will be a loss for Michigan, but we're confident that the lessons he has evoked in Ypsilanti will linger for a long time to come, by fostering new leadership in the local scene.
For all your work in disc golf, and especially the rippling effect that you have left behind in Michigan, we honor you Matt Monczka as this week's Microtel Disc Golfer of the Week. Congratulations!
