While playing disc golf is frequently an individual endeavor, promoting and organizing our sport should always be a team effort.

This motto has been no more true than in the lives of JohnE and Jen McCray, who not only employ a team effort when promoting and organizing disc golf, but while heading up their household that includes two daughters.

Long-known for his outstaning play and demeanor on the course, JohnE has also given a great deal back to the sport that he loves by including his wife in much of his off-course work. The two are constantly looking for new places to install courses, persist until the job is done, run tournaments and introduce many new players to the game in their travels throughout their home state of Florida.

Perhaps most impressive, from my own point of view, was the way JohnE handled himself during the semi-finals of the 2006 Pro World Championships. Rather than blaming anyone for his oversight of showing up late for the round, JohnE, though clearly disappointed, went ahead and threw what may have been the best 16-hole round of disc golf in World's history. Unfortunately, it was not good enough to get him into the Finals, but he never relented from the class-act that has long typified JohnE's style throughout his career.

The great commitment to disc golf that the McCray's have displayed would not be possible without the support of a great wife. Clearly, Jen too has bought into the benefits of disc golf, giving JohnE the space he needs to compete and joining with him as they grow disc golf in their region of Brandon, Florida.

Aleksey Bubis, who is an outstanding disc golfer himself, tells it this way, "Ask anyone and they will only have the utmost respect for John and Jen McCray. With all the time they have put into disc golf, they still find the time to have a great big happy family. It's because of people like John and Jen McCray why disc golf is growing and one day will be a mainstream sport."

Aleksy has clearly been influenced by the good work of JohnE and Jen, since he concludes, "Disc golf brings people closer in a community and teaches them about life and family." As the father of four, I cannot think of a better reason to recognize the outstanding work of the McCrays, both in disc golf and with their family. For this, we congratulate JohnE and Jen McCray for being awarded the Microtel Disc Golfer of the Week. Way to go!
