When the opportunity to gain some national exposure for our great sport came in front of Jonah Schmidt (from the San Francisco Disc Golf Club), he didn't even think twice about it. "This is the Conan O'Brien show," he figured, recognizing that this was a great chance for him to help promote the sport via an avenue we have not had previously.

So, being the high-minded disc golf leader that he is, Jonah immediately decided that he's NOT doing it! Yes...Jonah Schmidt decided that he will NOT be on the Conan O'Brien show, which was visiting his fair city of San Francisco during a week of shows. Huh? NOT doing the show?

No need to fret, fellow friends of the friz...Jonah had a better idea. Rather than prop himself up there, with most of us in the disc golf community wondering, "Who is this guy," Jonah thought that this is job for Super DGer Dave Feldberg! So, after a few phone calls to Dave, a request to the Disc Golf Association for some targets and discs, Jonah set up the Conan O'Brien appearance with the great class and selflessness that we are celebrating here at the DGer of the Week!

Of course, just because Jonah was not on stage, doesn't mean he wasn't in the theater during the show. In his usual style, Jonah was in the audience helping see that the discs being thrown at the targets in the crowd would not hurt anyone. As Lowe Bibby, one of the persons nominating Jonah said, "I believe he gave up his own spot on TV in order to promote DG in a bigger way. He was the main person in making it happen."

Jay Reading, the other person nominating Jonah also said, "The reason Jonah gets nominated is due to his unselfish vision of the sport of disc golf. After being contacted by Conan O'Brian staffers to do a segment on Golden Gate disc golf, Jonah saw the vision of a greater impact. He passed his moment in the sun so that a high profile star in our sport could make even more of an impact for our sport. Wow!"
