In the Mid-Atlantic Region, there is a tremendous history and legacy for disc sports. A history of players; a history of events; and a history of courses.

Yet, it is the history of good sportmanship and community that the region is most proud of, and no one exemplifies this disc community spirit better than this week's DGer of the Week awardee, Bob Graham.

"BOB" (BEE-OH-BEE), as he is affectionately known, was nominated by Frederick Doot, who is a relative new-comer to disc golf. Despite is short-time around the dg scene, however, it didn't take Doot long to recognize the accomplishments and leadership and friendliness that Bob brings to the disc golf course every time he is out there.

Fred tells it this way, "[Bob] goes above and beyond in welcoming guests to his home course of Rutgers (often runs across the course mid-round to help travelling players to the next tee); volunteers hours of his time helping new players develop proper form and mechanics; sacrifices his practice time to assist TDs in events he's attending and playing before rounds, during lunch, etc.; runs multiple highly enjoyable and generous tournaments each year at Rutgers; and is just a pleasure to spend time with on the course."

In the spirit of full disclosure, I must admit that I know Bob very well. And it is Bob's willingness to lend a helping hand everytime I'VE seen him at tournaments I've run, or his positive energy when we've playing in the same group together, that helped push this nominee over the edge toward this week's award.

Most importantly in him getting this award, however, is Bob's conviction for the sport. Bob and I have had disagreements about disc golf issues, policies, and decisions that have been made on both a regional and a PDGA-level. Yet, despite our differences on these issues, he and I still have a hug for each other everytime we get together...demonstrating Bob's deep commitment to the true spirit of our great game...friendship and love for our fellow players.
