Nestled in the rolling hills of western Kentucky, Bowling Green boasts of nothing. That would be rude. Instead, the citizens of Bowling Green let their actions do their talking for their talking for them...and, as such, they are telling an amazing story in the world of disc golf.

Just two short weekends ago, Larry Bledsoe, the tournament director for the Bowling Green Amateur Open, extended his southern hospitality to 719 disc golfers who traveled from over 30 different states to set the record as the largetst Amateur tournament in the history of our sport.

In the run-up to this mammouth weekend, Bledsoe was seen on many of the 11 different courses sweeping teepads, cleaning up garbage, and setting up targets. To be sure, Bledsoe enjoyed the luxury of having an experienced and dedicated staff to pull off one of the great events ever, but his managerial talents, mostly lead by demonstrating strong leadership through his example, kept the staff motivated and eager to execute the plan.

The disc golfer who nominated Larry for this award, Robert Summers, noted that, despite his immersion into running this event, he was quick to reply to e-mails and phone calls. Often tournament directors of events with as few as one-tenth of the field cannot keep up with e-mails and calls. But not Larry. He is truly a credit to the spirit of disc golf. He has given so much of himself.
