The PDGA is an organization that is not risk-averse. In fact, whether its been the National Tour, investing in our own telvision channel on the Web, or launching construction of the International Disc Golf Center, the PDGA has given it a try.

Some of the many risks taken by the PDGA have paid off, while others have fallen somewhat short. What has remained steady throughout all of these PDGA endeavors, however, is the dedication and hard work put forth by PDGA members to attempt to make all of these programs a success.

And with the Grand Opening of the International Disc Golf Center just a few short weeks away, the PDGA will once again be putting itself in front of the entire disc golf community and subjecting itself to the scrutiny of our oft-critical membership.

Yet with this looming arrival of the PDGA Board, Touring Pros, and curiosity seekers to Appling, one thing that will most assuredly be a hit are the courses that are rapidly taking shape at the IDGC. The success of these courses as competitive venues will be due in no small part to the tireless efforts of Georgia's own Jimmy Padgett.

Jimmy has just completed the construction of a 28 foot span (the second of three bridges) that is vital, not just for the long-term utility of the facility, but for the tournament that is coming up in Appling in just three short weeks. His skills, his dedication, and his selfless sacrifice to prepare the courses for all the disc golf world to see has garnered him, not just the respect of those in the PDGA Headquarters on site, but the Microtel Disc Golfer of the Week Award.

As nominating member and outgoing PDGA Executive Director Brian Hoeniger says of Jimmy, "He is a salt of the earth member [of the PDGA]." This is precisely the type of disc golfer that we aim to celebrate with this award. Congratulations Jimmy on your recognition. You deserve it.
