Microtel Disc Golfer of the Week Andrew "Big Dog" Sweeton PDGA #: 21582
Upon first meeting Andrew, it is not difficult to appreciate how he has earned the nickname "Big Dog."
Most importantly, however, is Andrew's ability to manage the many personalities and opinions that our sport includes. His fairness and sound judgement has been instrumental at his home course in Tyler State Park (Newtown, PA), where he is the tournament director for the long-running Eric C. Yetter SuperTour event, as well as in helping the Mid-Atlantic Disc Club stay together during this burgeoning growth of local clubs throughout the region.
Andrew has also been an innnovator in disc golf management and operations, as he has begun pooling the most capable tournament directors along the Atlantic Seaboard to share and co-TD events. His work with Bob Enman, especially, has proven to be a winning model that has enhanced disc golf events both in Pennsylvania and Maine.
Andrew has also brought his son, Alan, into the disc golf fold. Like his father, Alan too is a credit to the sport, as he carries himself as the same type of gentle giant Andrew is.
Eric Eichhorst, who nominated Andrew for this award, explains it this way..."In my 8 years of disc golf, I have not met a more dedicated person to the sport than Andrew Sweeton. I know he does not need the money for this award, but he was the first person that came to my mind when I read about this "Disc Golfer of the Week" award."
Congratulations Andrew on being this week's Microtel Disc Golfer of the Week. You are a credit to our sport and to the PDGA.
