Michigan continues to be one of the World's strong-holds of disc golf, thanks to the selfless work of people like Art Kinney.

The MT DGer of the Week has already featured the great deeds done by others in Michigan, but this week we move to the northern reaches of the state to recognize Art Kinney. His work in disc golf began in 1999, when he began organizing and promoting disc golf in the Traverse City area. It didn't take long for Art to jump in feet first as a volunteer, becoming a staff member of the Northern Waters Disc Sports club in 2000.

Since his first foray into the sport back then, Art's role in Northern Michigan disc golf has expanded into all the merchandising for the club, running the league, and even clocking a few hours a week at Tilley's, the local disc golf/party store in Traverse City.

Most impressive, though, is the outstanding relationship that Art has developed with the local park and recreation department. As described by Cal Benke, who nominated Art for this deserving recognition, "[Art] is a tireless worker and practically a shameless promoter of disc golf. As far as I'm concerned, disc golf in Northern Michigan would not be what it is today without Art Kinney being involved." So for all that you have given to our great sport, congratulations Art Kinney. You are this week's Microtel Disc Golfer of the Week award winner.
